Twitter Strategies – 10 Ways to Tweak Your Twitter Profile and Brand Yourself As a Leader

Having a professional twitter profile can help you to brand yourself as a leader in your network marketing Internet business! It can help you establish your credibility in your niche, generate leads for your M.L.M. business, build your email list, and make you more money.

But with that said, a lot of people on twitter are not making the best first impression. I am going to share with you 10 ways you can tweak your twitter profile so you are attractive to your future followers while being loved, admired and respected by your present followers.

People want to follow other people who will add value to their community, business, and friendship; and since social media is a whole lot of guilt (credibility) by association, they want to follow people who make THEM look good!

Stop and think about your mindset when it comes to giving referrals to your friends. We LOVE to be the person with the insider information that can fly in and save the day for one of our friends. We love to give referrals when we know our friends are going to benefit from them, because it makes us look like the hero! Every time someone Re-tweets you or shares your content with their their followers, they are casting a vote that says, "Hey, I think this person, or this content is cool and I think you might benefit from knowing about it or them."

That is why it is so important to put your best foot forward on twitter, and to appear like the leader you are, or are becoming!

10 Ways to Tweak Your Twitter Profile to Brand Yourself as a Leader:

In just a few steps you can have your twitter profile cleaned and tweaked just right, so that you become a respected leader in any of the niches you want to fly in.

1. You need a great looking photo that shows you face (preferably smiling!) and gives people a chance to remember you.

From birth, we all were given the ability to recognize and remember faces. We do not always remember names easily and we do not remember graphics or logos easily.

All chocolate labs look the same in photographs, and unless your business is dog breading, we want to see you! (Heck, even if your business is dog breading...I still would rather see you!)

Do not use a photo of your kids, although they are as cute as can be, they are not you! And do not use an outdated photograph of yourself either. I see people on twitter using photographs of them as kids, or photos of them 10 years ago, before their receding hairline or laugh lines.

We want to know who we are talking to on Twitter and there is no easier way to build your brand than with your face.

2. Use your name!

Use your real name for your twitter name, but if it is not available or you have already chosen your company name as your twitter handle, please use your real name in your profile!

People like to do business with people. We are skeptical of companies and businesses. We want to know YOU and what YOU are all about. If you are a business owner, that is certainly part of you, but it is not the whole story. Do not brand yourself as "XYZ company"...brand yourself with your name!

3. Tell me a little bit about yourself!

So yes, you only have 160 characters to share a little bit about yourself, so please be concise, but hit the points that you are passionate about! We want to know you are human, what you are working on, what you are interested in, what makes you special, etc. And if you want people in your niche to find you, throw in some of your keywords for good measure. Success with twitter is not about having the biggest list of followers, but instead to have a list of targeted followers in a specific niche who know who you are and look forward to reading your tweets!

4. Ditch the default background!

Use a twitter background that shows your style. Are you urban and uncluttered, or country chic? Make it congruent with your blog, website, Facebook fan page, or whatever you have online, but make it YOU! You want to look professional to brand yourself as a leader in your niche, so please ditch the default background!

5. Link to let us learn more about you!

There are lots of different philosophies as to what you should use as your link in your twitter profile. You can link to your Facebook profile, to an about me page on your blog, to your best content, to a great video on your YouTube account, to a 30 second video welcoming them and inviting someone to follow you and/or get to know you better by following you on Facebook as well!

I do not care what you do, as long as you are not sending me to a squeeze page. I think of that like wanting someone to hop in the sack with you before you have held hands! Save the squeeze pages for the occasional tweet that invites people to get your free report or to join you on a free tele-class.

6. Where are you from?

Share your location! One of the most interesting things about twitter and the internet is the fact that it brings together people from all corners of the world. I love seeing where people are from, learning about them, and discovering how much alike and how different we all are. I also love connecting with people in my local area and I feel a bond with people who live in places where I have lived, or who live in my home town. It is a great way to have a something in common that can be the catalyst of a new friendship!

7. We love lists!

Use the twitter list function to create lists of people you have met that others might enjoy following as well. If you have got a lot of followers who are into fitness, make a fitness list. If you have a lot of entrepreneurial moms make a list of them. It is another way that you can introduce your followers to each other and help them make friends. It will help you grow your list too!

8. Engage in conversation 80% or more of the time.

When I look at a person's twitter profile page and scroll down their time-line of updates, I like to see that they are building relationships and talking with others. I hate seeing a twitter page with nothing but, "Join XYZ company. Ground floor opportunity! "link" posted over and over again. I do not like to follow those kinds of people! I also LOVE to follow people who re-tweet content they find interesting or valuable! It shows that they are a go giver, and go givers gain my attention all the way.

9. All present and accounted for.

Do not be here today gone tomorrow. I have been that person before and trust me when I say it does not work. Even if people don not un-follow you, they will forget about you. Consistency in social media builds relationship and trust. People will not take you seriously if you are sometimes around twitter, and then gone for weeks or months at a time. There are lots of resources online that will allow you to schedule tweets if you are going to be gone on vacation or away for a while.

10. Offer lots of value.

May people will share lots of quotes, tips, and it is great to do that on occasion to fill in the gaps and offer inspiration to others. We all love quote, word, cartoon of the day calendars, but it is not enough to do that all day long. I see a lot of people who are new to twitter doing this because they do not quite know where to begin.

I suggest you use a twitter strategy that is focused around building the main structure of your presence from solid, beneficial content you find online through blogs, websites, YouTube videos, podcasts, or write yourself and then feathering your nest with the occasional quote, joke, or word of the day.

If you are engaged in your niche and up to date on what is happening in your industry, people will know you take your business seriously and want to do business with you.

Having a professional looking twitter profile and a well balanced tweet strategy will help you brand yourself as a leader and attract high quality followers. Set yourself apart from all the M.L.M. turkeys on twitter who are just there spamming their opportunity links. Be one of the savvy twitter users who are sharing valuable content, paying it forward, and raising the perception of the network marketing industry as a whole.
