Twitter – Do You Have a Tweeting Biorhythm?

Confession: I am addicted to Twitter. I'm checking my timeline several times a day just to see what's going on with all my favorite tweeters and in the world at large.

As a round-the-clock tweeter, I've noticed some biorhythms emerging for my followers and for those I am following:

Information on Monday through Friday Daytime - Since Twitter is 24/7/365, anybody can post anything anytime. But there seems to be more meaty informational posts during the 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. time frame, Monday through Friday.

Social Tweets on Evenings and Weekends - During the evening and weekends, there are more posts about what's on television, where people are eating, who they are going to see that night, errands they are running, sports, family, etc.

Granted, for the international audience, this may not be the case due to differences in time zones. However, if you serve a domestic or localized market, this could be significant. Schedule Informational Tweets on Weekdays - Since my audience is most active on Twitter Monday through Friday, I would schedule my most informational posts for the standard business work hours from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Central Standard Time. Doing so would help me reach my folks from coast to coast.

Tweet More Social Information During Evenings and Weekends - More social tweets will probably not be scheduled unless they are for a fundraising project or other community announcement. Social tweeting is best done in real time (or as close to real time as possible).

Monitor for Real-Time Tweets and Conversation - To help you actively participate in a conversation in real time, a "dashboard" application such as HootSuite allows you to see who is mentioning you or replying to your posts. This should be monitored throughout the day, possibly every couple of hours.

As you tune into your following's biorhythm, you may also find that you can better manage the social media overload that so ma
