I don't care what your small business is you've got to have a Facebook page. You've probably heard it all before and ignored it. You might not have the slightest clue as to how to do it, how to use Facebook or what the big deal is about any of it. If you're a barber, a plumber, florist, sheet rocker, car detailer, landscaper, waiter, eager online marketer or have any other sort of small business you are missing out big time if you are not taking part in the biggest social connection machine in history.
Confused? Lost? A bit scared of starting? Don't worry about it. It's easy once you get going. Just take these two simple steps and you'll be well on your way.
Before you start you'll need to understand the basic difference between and Facebook Profile and a Facebook Page. A Profile is for an individual person (aka you). A Page is for a company, organization, website or any other sort of business. You will need both a Profile and a Page and best part of all is it's all free.
First step is to visit the Facebook website and signup for a free account. It's really as simple as filling in the spaces and takes a few minutes. Enter as much information as you can about yourself as the more details you enter (such as where you live, what you like, where you went to school, etc) the easier it is to find people and for people to find you. Take some time, feel your way around and get a general sense of the whole thing. Take a bit of time to search for friends and connect with them. Believe me, there are going to be people you know on Facebook. Let them know you're now online and you'll be off and running.
Secondly you're going to get a basic small business Facebook Page setup. Login to your Facebook account, scroll all the way to the bottom of the site and click on the little "advertising" link. On the left of the next page you'll see a "Pages" link to click on. You'll see a link for "Create a Page." Click that and you're on your way. If possible name your page the name of your business or website and something descriptive a well. For example instead of Jenny's Knitting maybe try Jenny's Knitting - Sweaters, mittens and more...or something. You'll see a spot to upload an image for a logo like space in the upper left hand corner. It will take some time for you to get the hand of where things go and how they work but in the end you'll find that it's a pretty intuitive process.
After you have created both a Facebook Profile for yourself and a Facebook Page for your small business you will be in possession of the framework necessary to launch your business online. Once you tie these two things in with your website you've really got something to work with! Like everything else it takes some learning and figuring out but I'm telling
