Recently, Facebook announced Facebook Places; a feature that makes location-based functionality available on the number one social networking site. As a developer with excellent app skills, or a normal Facebook user, or a business that has appealing location marketing strategy, you will find ‘Places' feature very useful and beneficial. But before we present you with guide on how to use Facebook Places, here are some features of ‘Places' and how they are connected with your business;

Friends Tagging: the same way you can tag photos and videos, you can tag friends at the same location with you using the friends tagging feature. You will need to learn how to use Facebook Places to start enjoying this and other benefits that Places may have on your business.

The Facebook Places feature also allows you to obtain real-time stats about those who are loyal to your business. Again, loyalty is encouraged; since ‘Places' does not provide a fun tool (e.g. gaming tool) like other location sharing sites (Gowalla, Foursquare etc), its still a good idea to provide some sort of promotions or incentives to frequent visitors to help establish their loyalty.

Another great Facebook Places feature is the capacity to connect with other location sharing sites such as Foursquare, Booyah, Yelp and Gowalla. At the presentation of Facebook Places, these location apps made it known that they would integrate ‘Facebook Places into their apps. In essence, Facebook users can explore these location sharing sites right from Facebook platform. Learning how to use Facebook Places is the starting point to maximizing these benefits.

Also, Facebook Places has a feature called ‘People Here Now'. Using this feature, you can connect with friends at same location all at a time. Also, you can connect with persons you may not have known at all, but perhaps share the same interests as you.

Again, ‘Places' enables you to claim your business; if you are an official representative of a business, you can claim it; this action has the capacity to convert the place to Facebook page. Subsequently, you can commence update postings attracted people to your page. You can also update the information related to your business. In addition, Facebook Places feature is a great way to promote interaction, maybe reward those who leave reviews and feedback for your business.  Learn how to use Facebook Places to start enjoying these benefits.

How to Use Facebook Places

The first step for using Facebook Places is getting a Smartphone. Another option if you don't have an iPhone is to use Facebook touch mobile site. However, your browser needs to be compatible with HTML 5 as well as geolocation.

The next step on how to use Facebook Places is to locate the Places tab on your smartphone or via touch.facebook.com. Subsequently, there will be a question prompting you to confirm that you allow Facebook to know your location. Click ‘allow' to enable access to the Places Interface.

Now start sharing your location on Facebook Places with your friends (Places users).
