It's vital to make the right impressions in life, we all know that, but take a quick tour of the twitter photo album and you'll find a few mug shots, more than enough fake profiles and hundreds if not thousands of faceless dummies out there on the horizon.
So, in simple terms, add a little bit of you to the twittersphere. Make your twitter profile stand out from the crowd with a good photo or avatar, a punchy one line bio and a call to action right beside a link to your website. This three step plan will bring in ongoing free traffic to your website and if you're business is being built online like most work from home businesses are then you will need free traffic and twitter can provide it if you set up and provide the right profile page.
Lists
Twitter lists have only recently come onto the market and right now there is little obvious value from them but my prediction is that over time they will overtake hashtags in their ability to select and create exclusive conversations within the twittersphere and thereby traffic through social buzz. Where hashtags and twitter trends are able to identify popular keywords being used on twitter, lists will take this one step further and if all goes to plan will become a part of Google search results some time soon.
What does this mean for you? Participate, get involved and start to become part of the conversation either on a list you create or a list you are a part of. Find a home business list and let people know you're building a business online and you'll soon find people listening to you and perhaps even re-tweeting your updates.

Automation
Twitter has brought automation to a new level online and taken what was once a closely guarded secret known only to a few select internet marketers to the masses. Let's face it, how often do you get a personal response to your first contact with a new follower on twitter these days? Not that often I'd guess.
Okay, so is this a bad thing? Not really, provided it's used properly and not abused. There are some powerful twitter automation tools out there and you can get lost in the woods if you start to use them all at the same time but with the right tools and the right approach marketing on twitter can be a 90% automation process.
So, here's my quick list of top three twitter marketing tools to help you grow your work from home opportunity.
SocialOomph - a great tool to help you manage your twitter accounts, intergrate RSS feeds, send automatic tweets through integration with Ping.fm. SocialOomph may have lost a little punch since Twitter changed its rules of engagement a couple of months back but it is still a worthwhile addition to your marketing arsenal ( and If you don't want to go with the pro version then the free account is still pretty good)
Tweetree - not quite an automation tool but one which will help you to track conversations and keep up to speed with your twitter followers. Some of the big tweeters shoot from the Tweetree hip, so this one comes with a few solid testimonials behind it.
Twollo - an old favourite and often misused or misunderstood in my opinion, but still the best free friend adder around. Get your keywords well targeted and set and forget with this one and before you know it you will see your follower list growing by the hundreds.
RSS feeds
RSS stands for really simple syndication and when it comes to marketing on twitter this is one of the best ways to add an automated feed to your profile page, linking your blog or any other feed to your Twitter account using Hootsuite or Twitterfeed and you can set regular updates to engage and entertain your audience even while you sleep. If you haven't got your own blog set up yet then Google reader will offer you a huge selection of niche specific RSS feeds to chose from to add a little flavour to your twitter profile page.
Facebook integration
The easiest and fastest way to keep in touch with your growing lists of followers and friends is to connect them across the various social networking sites that you use. Facebook applications are in the thousands and one of the best is the twitter application which allows you to automatically update twitter from facebook, appearing to be in two places at once as it were. This application is a must have for your social media marketing efforts.
Remember, twitter is only a marketing tool and like all tools it is only as good as the person holding it.
