I remember the first day I heard about Facebook. Not only was I overwhelmed with the thought of what I heard it could do, or was doing, but when I looked at it I felt it was way over my head.
Facebook has taken on several different shapes since that day and evolves with the times, it seems. Today, there are more users trying to market their products or services using Facebook than ever before. As a matter of fact today alone I've seen several advertisements on the internet for social media and social networking training.
The growth of Facebook isn't going to slow down. So, if you are not using Facebook to market your products or services then you need to get in the game before you're left behind. Many tens of millions of users worldwide, mostly in the United States, are frequent visitors to Facebook every day.
Your Friends
The whole basis behind social networking is being able to 'live' in your friends world. Years past we were able to be nosey neighbors, maybe even read the gossip column in the local paper. Today, we want our friends to post what they're doing at all times. I have several friends who I have 'lost contact with' yet I still see almost daily updates relating to what's happening in their life.
A basic model of locating friends within Facebook is that of your network. Where you live, what you do, where you've worked and who your friends are can exponentially increase your amount of relevant friends on Facebook.
Your Groups
As an internet marketer you can use groups in several ways. You could join groups to network with others having the same thoughts, concerns or needs as you have (or can solve for them...) or you could create groups for the same reasons. As far as I can tell there aren't much better ways in the world today to attract such a solid base of followers.
It's important to remember as part of this social networking aspect when you or a friend, or anyone for that matter, joins a group that you are 'related' to, you'll get a note posted to your update feed. It may not sound like much of a feature but image someone praising you or your product and now it appears instantly on 10,000 pages of Facebook users!
Free and Paid Advertising
Facebook offers both free and paid advertising methods. I have used both and both I would give mixed reviews on.
The free classifieds are great especially when using a picture. If you are in the right networks your 'ad' can appear in front of literally millions of people with just minutes of work under your belt. No kidding! This is where you want to offer a product for free possibly to get the user interested initially.
Paid marketing ads on Facebook are available much like Google Adwords pay-per-click operates. Facebook does allow you to narrow your targeted audience quite well and since Facebook is a social monster by creation, your ads are getting served to a more finely tuned audience to your offered proposition.
