What do people think of social workers?

I am training to be a social worker. I know what a social worker is and their role inside out.

What i want to know is what thoughts people have on social workers? What do YOU think they do based on your own information.

And do you think this is a worth while job.

The reason i ask is i think social workers get a bit of a bad press in the media and i wanted to know what people thought of the job.
