This video is a response to Maureen Johnson's excellent manifesto, which you can read here: www.maureenjohnsonbooks.com There's a lot of talk in the publishing world these days of being a brand/using social media to sell your books, and how, if you want to be a successful writer, you have to regularly update and reach out to readers via facebook, your blog, twitter, etc. I used to think I believed in branding as a concept, but the moment I actually put myself out there on the internet, I realized that it was ridiculous to think that way. Because I was putting myself out there--not my product, not links to my book on amazon--myself. And, as Maureen says, I am not a brand.
